Welcome from the Head of School

Gareth Myles

Why study economics?

To have an impact and make a difference! Economics is the science of decision-making and makes the world a better place by guiding and informing the choices of individuals, businesses, and governments.

Economics graduates have valuable skills that improve public policy and raise the profitability of businesses. An economist is trained to think strategically and analytically. Economists are employed as ultimate decision-makers, key advisers, and as researchers who generate new knowledge.

The programs of the University of Adelaide's School of Economics prepare you to have impact and to make a difference.

Previous studies in economics are not required for entry into either our undergraduate programs or our Master of Applied Economics program.

Merit-based scholarships are available to assist selected international and domestic students undertake our Master of Applied Economics program.

On behalf of all of my colleagues in the School of Economics, I encourage you to explore our School website to find the program that will help you launch your career. We look forward to meeting you in Adelaide in the near future.

Best regards,

Professor Gareth Myles
